Michael C. O'Donnell's Church & State Blog

My colleague on the staff of Kingston, NY's Lincoln Eagle, which is going online soon and is looking for correspondents around the country, including in the Land of Lincoln (hint: Mairi, Jim), Michael C. O'Donnell writes excellent articles each month.  His Website, Church and State, is at http://inconspectudei.org/.  O'Donnell blogs from a libertarian Catholic perspective  On his site, O'Donnell quotes Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan, who likens abortion to slavery, as well as Cardinal Egan, who shows a picture of a 20-week-old fetus that looks suspiciously like a human being.  So much for the abortion-is-not-murder argument.  O'Donnell links to Egan's article:

"Adolf Hitler convinced himself and his subjects that Jews and homosexuals were other than human beings. Joseph Stalin did the same as regards Cossacks and Russian aristocrats. And this despite the fact that Hitler and his subjects had seen both Jews and homosexuals with their own eyes, and Stalin and his subjects had seen both Cossacks and Russian aristocrats with theirs."

Philosophical arguments that posit the morality of abortion are linked to those that posit the morality of murder, as are arguments for socialism.

O'Donnell argues that "federal, state and local elected officials have lost their moral legitimacy and authority to serve."  That is why I am asking Mr. O'Donnell to be the third member of the Secession Party. Mike Marnell, The Lincoln Eagle's publisherwhich published the SP's manifesto this month, was first, followed by his brother Mark.  I am working on Glenda McGee, but I'm afraid the SP is turning into an Irish mafia.  I'll ask Russell Schindler of Kingston, NY, to join although I'm not sure that totalitarian socialists are interested.  Schindler would make a good attorney for the SP, though.

O'Donnell takes on the looting of the Social Security trust fund and the federal government's inability to maintain a stable money supply. In a recent article in The Lincoln Eagle O'Donnell points out that it is perfectly legal to drive without a license and shows that federal law, which does not require non-commercial licenses, supersedes state laws. According to Marnell, O'Donnell has beaten driving without a license charges ten times in local courts.

Stupak Lied to the Anti-Abortion Movement

Jim Crum forwarded this link to Lonely Conservative.com and Gateway Pundit. Last year, Stupak told a town meeting that he planned to vote for Obamacare even if abortion funding was included, as per the video below. Stupak's nonsensical claim that Obama's executive order was the motivation for him to change his vote was just a way to save face with the anti-abortion groups whom he's been misleading in order to win their support.

Obama on Abortion

Barack Obama discusses his abortion ideas here on the Theologica blog. The talk is long winded and a snoozer, but Theologica writes:

"Note in particular this line: "The first thing I'll do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act."

Obama says "It is time to write a new chapter in American history". He implies that the abortion issue is a health issue, and that Christians' moral and religious concerns concerning abortion are reactionary, and overturning them is a matter of progress. He implies that abortion opponents are narrow minded advocates of culture war and lack of public unity. He says he has stood up for freedom of choice and that he opposed the confirmation of Roberts and Alito to the Supreme Court because of the abortion issue. "We're at a crossroads right now in America and we have to move the country forward." He argues that belief in abortion is "science".

Lifenews estimtates that FOCA will mean 125,000 more abortions each year.

Nancy Razik notes that Catholic Hospitals are threatening to close because of the Freedom of Choice Act. If that happens, there will be a health crisis. Nancy Razik writes:

>Dear Family and Friends,

As most of you know, last night Obama made a public announcement that he is going to sign the Freedom Of Choice Act, which will allow all types of abortions including partial birth abortions, also allowing babies who are born alive due to botched up late term abortions, to be set aside without any medical care or nourishment and left to die (most of these babies have no medical problems and most of the ones that do, have things like cleft palates, club feet, things that are correctable, still they are murdered in the most cruel and inhuman way. They feel everything that is happening to them. There is more mercy for dogs that are put to sleep) This Bill also will make it mandatory for doctors and nurses to perform this murderous act even if they do not want to do so. This act also allows under age teens to have an abortion, even partial birth abortions, without parental consent.

Catholic Bishops have pleaded with Obama not to go ahead with this horrible murder of innocent babies. They have also told Obama that if he persists in signing this Bill which would require even Catholic Hospitals to perform these acts of murder, they will have no choice but to close all Catholic Hospitals. Please let us join with these courageous Bishops who will go to any length to change Obama's mind. Please take a minute to sign this statement and let our voices be heard.

This is a great, informative website (also here). You can click on the video of Obama's speech to the Planned Parenthood group where he promised that the first thing he would do if elected President would be to sign the Freedom Of Choice Act. He isn't even in the White House yet and he made a statement last night that he will go forward with his plans to sign this outrageous bill. He still can change his mind because the Bill cannot be signed until he is actually the President.

Please let your family and friends know about this Bill and ask them to also sign this petition. Even those who voted for Obama would not want him to sign this Bill. May God have mercy on our country for the sake of the millions who would never agree with this Bill if they fully understood all that it encompasses. Please click on the web site below. It will take less than a minute of your time, doesn't cost anything and God will bless you for standing up for Him and His teachings.

Nancy asks that you please sign this petition.

Obama's Abortion Lie

Brutally honest (h/t Rick) has a blog about Barack Obama's position on abortion. The gist is that Obama lied about his position on abortion. What? I can't believe it. Obama really lied?

>"So Obama's goal is to reduce the number of abortions, a goal he deems worthy of pursuing:

"'Because the fact is that although we’ve had a president who is opposed to abortions the last eight years, abortions have not gone down.'

"Really?

"The number of abortions performed in the United States dropped to 1.2 million in 2005 -- the lowest level since 1976, according to a new report.

"The number of abortions fell at least in part because the proportion of women ending their pregnancies with an abortion dropped 9 percent between 2000 and 2005, hitting the lowest level since 1975, according to a nationwide survey.

"Well... I'm sure Barack simply made a mistake, after all there's nothing in his history that would suggest that he has anything in mind but to reduce the number of abortions...

"Last week Doug Johnson of the National Right to Life Committee drew my attention to a previously unnoticed January 2008 article by Terence Jeffrey stating Barack Obama actually did vote against a version of the IL Born Alive Infants Protection Act that was identical to the federal version, contrary to multiple public statements Obama or his surrogates have made to rationalize his opposition thttp://www.blogger.com/post-create.g?blogID=2555123713188257297o the IL bill for the past 4 years.

"Since then we have found 2 separate documents proving Barack Obama has been misrepresenting facts...
