What You Get When You Elect an Extremist: Obama Fourth Worst President

The recent turmoil in Libya and consequent upswing of oil prices have serious ramifications for the US economy. Obama has either fumbled his way to an attack on the oil industry, or he and the oil industry are working together to push up prices.  Either way, Obama's performance has been so bad that it is worse than Bush's.  As someone interested in reforming the GOP, Obama's performance is discouraging.  The public is going to take any Republican, even George W. Bush, over the president who is single handedly destroying the American way of life and the American economy.

One would think that while Obama's policies have harmed global oil supply, he would raise exploration and development of domestic sources. But he has done the reverse. He has cut back on domestic supply while his incompetent foreign policy decisions have reduced global supply.  The failure of Obama's energy and Middle East policies directly follow two years of incompetent handling of the US economy, massive monetary expansion and passage of a destructive health care law.

The eight worst presidents in American history, starting with the worst, are:

(1) Lyndon Baynes Johnson
(2) Abraham Lincoln
(3) Woodrow Wilson
(4) Barack Obama
(5) Theodore Roosevelt
(6) Franklin D. Roosevelt
(7) George W. Bush
(8) Richard M. Nixon

Of course, Obama has two years to go. What new incompetent steps will O bring to bear on American society? Time will tell.

Excellent list. But wow !! You forgot Richard Nixon.

They were all bad, starting with Truman (Administrative Procedures + wars), each successively worse than the previous. It really starting becoming obvious with Billy Clinton.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of the school teachers of Rhode Island.

As far as Nixon, I had to give credit to Woodrow Wilson, the creator of the federal income tax and the Fed before Nixon, who was but a small time criminal and extended the Fed's powers.

The Federal Income Tax was created by the 16th Amendment. Congress passed the Amendment on July 12, 1909, and it was ratified on February 3, 1913 (1,302 days). Wilson was sworn in on March 13, 2013. after the Amendment was ratified. How did he "create" the Income Tax?

Good point about the 1909 passage of the 16th Amendment by Congress. Also, one of my heroes, President Grover Cleveland, had signed an income tax law that was subsequently declared unconstitutional. The constitutional amendment is not a presidential responsibility. But Wilson signed into law the creation of today's income tax, which existed continuously since October 1913:

From Wikipedia:

The United States Revenue Act of 1913 also known as the Tariff Act, Underwood Tariff, Underwood Tariff Act, or Underwood-Simmons Act (ch. 16, 38 Stat. 114, October 3, 1913), re-imposed the federal income tax following the ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment and lowered basic tariff rates from 40% to 25%, well below the Payne-Aldrich Tariff Act of 1909. It was signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson on October 3, 1913, and was sponsored by Alabama Representative Oscar Underwood.

Another point about Wilson. He lied to the nation in the 1916 election. His campaign slogan was "He Kept Us Out of War." After re-election, he entered the war. This caused the Fed to inflate the money supply, leading to the first major 20th century inflation and then 1920 depression (which was cured within 2 years without Keynesian economics or public works spending, in contrast to the Great Depression, which was cured in 10 years with Keynesian economics and public works spending).

A third point about Wilson: He was the first US president to introduce outright socialism/fascism. This point is elaborated at considerable length in "A New History of Leviathan" edited by Ronald Radosh and Murray N. Rothbard. The syndicalist approach to total control of the economy that Wilson introduced during World War I was the first instance of complete control of the economy by Washington and far exceeded the harm that Barack H. Obama is doing today.

Bush is and will always be remembered as one of the greatest presidents in history. Kept your ass safe after 9/11.

Bush's Patriot Act is one of the major attacks on the US Constitution in our lifetimes. Plus, his expansion of government spending, his stupid prescription drug plan that wasted hundreds of millions, and, worst of all, the Federal Reserve bailout of big finance that will cost Americans trillions and the massive monetary expansion that, together with the moronic policies of Obama, spells a long term decline in America's economy.
