President Trump: Investigate Google and Facebook

PO Box 130
West Shokan, NY 12494
September 18, 2019

The President
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC  20500

Dear Mr. President:

Recent allegations* concerning interference in American elections by Facebook and Google suggest that they may have violated and may plan to violate various sections of election law. For example, political advertisers are required to disclose the person or organization responsible for political advertising, yet Facebook does not disclose itself as a source of political advertising.  As well, Google's slanted search results are undisclosed political advertising.  Recently, editor-in-chief of Psychology Today  Dr. Robert Epstein  testified that Google and Facebook have manipulated elections.  This is more extreme than election advertising, but it can be subsumed under its rubric.

I urge the Justice Department to investigate and if violations are found to criminally prosecute Facebook and Google management, including Messrs. Zuckerberg, Brin, and Page, if there is evidence of failure to comply with federal election law.

As well, because the two tech firms pose a threat to American democracy, shuttering and sequestering their sites prior to upcoming elections may be appropriate.  Facebook in general may have deleterious effects on American society. While Google's technology is better than its competitors', the harm from its ham-handed and possibly criminal actions exceeds the limited social benefits from its technology.

Sincerely,

Mitchell Langbert, Ph.D.

The New Totalitarianism

Facebook and Twitter are models for a new totalitarianism under which people voluntarily subjugate themselves to censorship because without it they lead vacuous lives.

The Progressive Syllogism

This is the progressive syllogism:

(1) The Federal Reserve Bank prints money.
(2) The money is invested in tech firms like Twitter and Facebook.
(3) Twitter and Facebook "manage" speech.

I'll leave the conclusion to you.

Mark Lutchman on Jamie Glazov Says "No" to Facebook

Mark Lutchman reminds me of several of my students.  He makes some good points.  It seems that Facebook threw him off because he thinks for himself, which is a good reason to stay away from Facebook.  Lutchman's offending video is on Frontpagemag. Lutchman gives a more honest and thorough attack on racism, especially the racism of the Democratic Party, than I have heard in academia since going to work in 1991.

Thiel May Resign from Facebook

The Democrats' authoritarian obsession with political correctness isn't limited to their tax-subsidized, partisan clubhouses like universities, colleges, government agencies, and labor unions. Peter Thiel, a member of the Facebook board, is moving to LA, in part to get away from the Democratic Party atmosphere in Silicon Valley. The Wall Street Journal reports:

Mr. Thiel has also discussed with people close to him the possibility of resigning from the board of Facebook Inc., the people familiar with his thinking said. His relationship with the social-networking company—where he has been a director since 2005, the year after its founding—came under strain after a dispute with a fellow director over Mr. Thiel’s support for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign...

Democrats encourage disagreement until people disagree.
