An interesting historical note about the inheritance tax is that the super-rich, the Jay Goulds and John D. Rockefellers never paid it. The Gould and Rockefeller families have held on to the estates via trusts 3-6 generations later. So what is so important about inheritance tax? Buffett stands with knife and fork, hoping to carve up businesses of families who cannot afford the taxes, and puts his own money in a trust to be donated to frivolous charities, not to be taxed. If the advocates of the death tax cared about the rich, they would go after the income tax treatment of trusts, not after 10 million dollar estates of farmers and family businesses.Mitchell Langberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00722335216553899790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2555123713188257297.post-32270295035687067392008-05-24T23:33:00.000-04:002008-05-24T23:33:00.000-04:00Excerpt from May 24, 2008 Yahoo article "Buffett s...Excerpt from May 24, 2008 Yahoo article "Buffett sees long deep US Recession" ..."that won't stop him from investing in selected companies and said he remained interested in well-managed German <I>family-owned</I> companies."<BR/><BR/>Its interesting that Buffett wants to invest in family-owned companies in Germany yet remains committed to the continued crippling of American Family-owned businesses with exorbitant death taxes.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11039575181573512790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2555123713188257297.post-29050590771035138532008-01-23T18:46:00.000-05:002008-01-23T18:46:00.000-05:00Special interests that can easily organize and hav...Special interests that can easily organize and have alot to gain from legislation tend to be the most effective lobbyists. These include concentrated industries that benefit from protectionism, professional interests like lawyers and physicians and labor unions.
